How did you come up with your derby name and/or number? (And what do your teammates call you?)

I couldn't think of any puns for my real name or at least didn't sound like someone else's name on the team so I went a different route. I've always had a fascination with pirates. I went with Pirate Queen and it stuck. Most people I know just call me Pirate.

What made you decide to try roller derby?

My mom. She knew one of the founders of the league and encouraged me to go to a practice to watch. She became my biggest fan.

How long have you been playing roller derby?

Since 2012

What's your favorite thing about MedCity Roller Derby?

They're like a 2nd family. They play hard but they pick you up when you fall.

What position or role do you have within the league?

A lot. Vet skater, Co-captain, new recruit trainer and on the board.

What are you most excited about this season?

It's a bittersweet season for me as I've decided to retire as an active skater. I want to have a great season overall and go out with a bang.

Do you have a game day ritual or routine?

I have a couple of songs I listen to either while diving or on the track with headphones

What is your favorite or least favorite drill/skill at practice and why?

Since I write the practices, I tend not to put in any drills I hate. I love finding new drills on derby tiktok and trying new things. My favorites are drills where you are playing a game or doing something fun but still working on practical skills.

If you could live or visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Normally I'd say Ireland but I'm planning a trip there for next year. Other places would be Alaska, New Zealand or Tortuga.

Which three words would you use to describe yourself?

Caring but sassy and passionate

Do you have a favorite song that gets you hyped up for games or practice?

He's a Pirate from the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack.

If you had to choose an animal to be, which would you choose and why?

Depends on my mood. Sometimes I'd love to be a dragon and fly other times a cat and sleep all day... But then if I were a dragon, I could just do whatever I wanted to anyway.
